6 Reasons to consider a Pomsky instead!

If you appreciate the sprightly, enthusiastic personality of a Pomeranian but are concerned about the potential serious health issues of this breed, a Pomsky may be a great choice for you!

A Pomsky combines the quirky, playful personality of a Husky with the observant, plucky nature of a Pomeranian to produce a stunning hybrid that keeps the signature look of the Husky and combines it with the smaller stature of the Pomeranian but with far less likelihood of the common health issues they face.

Benefits of a Pomsky:

  • Pomskies can adapt to apartment life with adequate exercise.
  • Pomskies have Hybrid vigor.
  • Pomskies do well with other dogs and older children.
  • Pomskies have unique personalities, always keeping you entertained with their quirks.
  • Pomskies are generally very healthy.
  • Pomskies don’t require excessive grooming.

Pomskies are a fairly even mix between Pomeranian and Husky. This means that though a Pomsky shares many traits with a Pomeranian, there are still many differences between the two.

While they are both small dogs, Pomeranians are much smaller than Pomskies, with Pomeranians being 3-7 pounds and Pomskies 20-30 pounds. Although Pomskies are significantly larger than Pomeranians, both breeds can thrive in apartments or houses without backyards, so long as they get adequate exercise.

Pomskies inherited the medium-length coat from their Husky parents ,so they don’t require as much grooming as Pomeranians do. Pomskies still have the thick double coat of a Pomeranian that will need plenty of brushing during the shedding months.

Like Pomeranians, Pomskies tend to be guardian dogs. Although they are friendlier to strangers than Pomeranians, Pomskies still have the urge to protect their homes and family. This means that they will tend to bark at foreign sounds.

Pomskies and Pomeranians are both intelligent and active breeds. Both are quite stubborn, making them hard to train, despite their intelligence. While training, they both need stimulating activity to hold their attention. And while both are high-energy dogs, Pomskies need more exercise than Pomeranians do. Pomskies require a brisk walk or some exciting playtime for at least an hour a day.

The biggest difference between a Pomeranian and a Pomsky is looks. While Pomskies inherited the size of a Pomeranian, Pomskies look very much like tiny Huskies. In fact, when looking at a Pomsky, it might be hard to tell what it is mixed with other than Husky. But when you look at the personalities of Pomskies and Pomeranians, it’s not hard to see the similarities between the two breeds.
